Introduction

Everyone is a photographer these days…

I hear this sentiment often when I break out my camera, or engage on the topic of imagery.

There’s some truth to the statement. Smart phones + Instagram have made celebrities of people with the simple click of a button. But so much of it just leaves me flat. There is a magic that happens when craft and concept are entered into the equation that can never be equaled.

I started photography when you had to understand the mechanics of an actual camera. I don’t think a snobbery for that is warranted… however, it’s difficult to deny the advantages of understanding light and how to manipulate the subtleties of it with a camera.
