Introduction
“You should study graphic design”, he said.
That was the prompt from my university illustration professor when I was a freshman in college.
I’m still a little unsure if it was because my drawing hand-skills were somewhat abysmal. Regardless, it was sage advice and came when we did our first inking project.
From that point forward, I dove head first into the craft and studied under some great mentors. In conjunction, I taught myself how to code basic websites… I wanted to understand the process end-to-end as much as possible.
Over the years, I’ve come to value design not just as an aesthetic tool, but for its ability to change perception and communicate. It’s our job as designers to solve problems… business problems, usability problems, image problems, etc. It’s a fun challenge.
